Stay at Moulin de Crottefou, a charming gîte in the Morvan
A mill with character on the banks of the Cure
The Moulin de Crottefou is located in Marigny-l'Église, on the edge of a large forest and on the banks of the river «La Cure». The property covers around 6 hectares, offering meadows, undergrowth and direct access to the river for swimming or fishing in season.
This building has retained its soul while being fitted out for modern comforts: large, cosy lounge with wood-burning stove, TV area, library, board games and music corner with vinyl records. The atmosphere is designed to encourage guests to recharge their batteries, share their experiences and enjoy a real family spirit.
Capacity, rooms and facilities
Our gîte sleeps up to 15 people in 5 comfortable bedrooms, plus a bonus dormitory ideal for children or young people. There are several shower rooms, with bed linen and towels available for hire to make organising your stay easier. We offer a high level of comfort and a layout suited to families, groups of friends or associations.
A large teak terrace with a pergola, summer lounge and large table is perfect for outdoor meals and barbecues. A petanque court, outdoor games such as mölkky and a large games area (table football, table tennis, etc.) in the barn complete the range of activities on offer for dynamic or relaxing stays, as you wish.
A unique troglodyte chapel
At the heart of our Moulin lies a small chapel in the vaulted troglodyte cellars. This intimate, atypical setting is particularly popular for meditation, prayer or group contemplation. The Christian and spiritual character of the site makes it an ideal setting for retreats, weekends to recharge one's batteries or community meetings.

An ideal starting point for Burgundy's gourmet routes
From Marigny-l'Église, you're halfway to many of Burgundy's gourmet hotspots: Vézelay, Avallon, Saulieu, Auxerre, Semur-en-Auxois and Puisaye. The region has organised its culinary discoveries into «Gourmet Routes», themed itineraries of producers, artisans, restaurateurs and emblematic sites.
The gourmet routes you are interested in are part of several major itineraries in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, with a variety of stops along the way: villages with character, wine estates, regional produce houses, bistronomic or gastronomic restaurants. By staying at the Moulin de Crottefou, you can cover several days and combine walks, visits and tastings without changing accommodation.
The gourmet route in the Auxerrois region
Route description
The Auxerrois gourmet route runs from Semur-en-Auxois to Auxerre, via Avallon and Vézelay. This 110 km route takes in medieval towns, famous vineyards and emblematic gourmet addresses. The Auxerre region is recognised as a crossroads for exceptional gourmet routes, combining gastronomy, wine and traditional skills.
From Marigny-l'Église, you can easily reach Avallon or Vézelay, which are around forty minutes away, and then continue on to Auxerre to complete the loop. It's an ideal day out for discovering the many facets of northern Burgundy, between the Morvan and the Cousin and Yonne valleys.
Flavours and specialities to discover
Along the way, you'll come across iconic products such as Maison Marc's famous 100% gherkins from Burgundy, much sought-after by chefs and delicatessens alike. The wine cellars and estates around Auxerre and Chablis offer the chance to taste renowned white and red wines, to go with cheese and local specialities.
Specialities to look for include
- Auxerrois and Chablis wines (mineral whites, fruity reds).
- Burgundy cheeses such as Époisses and Soumaintrain.
- Traditional charcuterie, hams and terrines.
- Top-of-the-range gherkins and condiments.
At the end of the day, you return to the Moulin to enjoy the terrace and share your finds around a large table.
The gourmet route in the Auxois
An area between Dijon and Semur-en-Auxois
The Auxois Gourmet Route is based around the Dijon - Flavigny - Semur-en-Auxois route. This is an area of hedged farmland, hills and fortified villages, where medieval heritage and generous cuisine come together. Semur-en-Auxois, in particular, is often referred to as a «bastion of good taste», with its historic centre and high-quality culinary offering.
From our gîte in Burgundy, you can plan a day trip to Semur-en-Auxois, around 1h15 to 1h30 away, via Saulieu or Avallon. This itinerary can easily be combined with walks or visits to châteaux, particularly Bazoches, closer to the Morvan.
Stages and gourmet experiences
In the Auxois region, the emphasis is on farm produce, quality meat, cheeses and local cuisine. In Semur-en-Auxois, for example, you'll find restaurants offering seasonal menus and local produce, as well as craftsmen (bakers, delicatessens, cheesemakers) committed to promoting short distribution circuits.
Experiences include
- Take a lunch break at a restaurant in Semur-en-Auxois, for a taste of modern Burgundian cuisine.
- Stroll around the local markets to buy cheeses, honeys, jams or special breads.
- Discover the workshops of artisans and producers listed in the documentation for the gourmet routes.
In the evening, it's back to peace and quiet: the forest, the river and the tranquillity of the Morvan.
The gourmet route in Morvan, nature and flavours
The Morvan, a «nature-loving» region»
The Morvan is presented as a «natural gourmet» region, where gastronomy goes hand in hand with forests, lakes and wide open spaces. The Gourmet Route in the Morvan follows a Chalon-sur-Saône - Couches - Autun - Château-Chinon - Saulieu route, with five main stages. Marigny-l'Église lies close to this route, between Saulieu and Château-Chinon, making it an excellent base camp from which to explore the route.
You're on the doorstep of major lakes such as Les Settons and Le Crescent, and numerous footpaths, notably the GR 13 that crosses the Morvan. This makes for a perfect combination of hiking, swimming, cultural visits and gourmet stops at local producers.
Local products and top addresses
The Morvan celebrates simple, generous products, often from small farms and short distribution channels. Among the specialities you can discover while staying at the Moulin :
- Morvan ham, charcuterie and free-range meats.
- Honeys, red fruit jams, apple juice and farm ciders.
- Cow's and goat's cheeses, often sold on the farm or at markets.
- Small-scale production of local craft beers and spirits.
Around our gîte in Burgundy, several restaurants complete the offer: traditional inn, gourmet restaurant and pizzeria, allowing you to vary the pleasures during the same stay. You can alternate meals cooked at the Moulin with restaurant outings and tastings on the gourmet routes.
The gourmet route in the heart of Burgundy
Burgundy can be explored in several ways
The Gourmet Routes in the heart of Burgundy are a mosaic of routes linking Auxerre, Toucy, Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye and Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire, as well as other routes along the Loire and Yonne rivers. These itineraries showcase Burgundy's wine-growing regions, dairy products, artisanal biscuits, Loire fish and a wide variety of recipes.
From the Morvan, you're at the junction of several of these routes, so you can organise day trips to Puisaye or the Loire Valley while still enjoying unique, comfortable accommodation. Our gîte in Marigny-l'Église thus becomes a central «base camp» for exploring the whole of gourmet Burgundy.
Wines, cheeses and sweets along the way
The heart of Burgundy is inextricably linked with its vineyards and its culinary tradition. On these routes, you can alternate between :
- Wine tastings at Burgundy estates and cellars (whites, reds, crémants).
- Discover cheese dairies producing local specialities.
- Visits to biscuit, chocolate and sweet shops.
- Stop off at inns and restaurants featuring regional cuisine and seasonal menus.
After a day full of discoveries, coming back to Le Moulin means returning to the calm of the river, a roaring fire in winter or the terrace in summer, and accommodation designed to comfortably accommodate your whole tribe.
